Cutting down on sugar, using my Nespresso Machine

I am currently into my 2nd week of a diet plan (90 days of agonising discipline) and before the plan, I took a medical check up and found that my sugar levels were on the high side.

Based on my report, my glucose level is 5.8 compared to the standard range of 3.9 to 5.5. The doctor said I needed to cut down on my sugar intake and I was really thinking what are the items which I normally consume that is high in sugar and the first thing that popped into my mind was my Nescafe 3-in-1 coffee. I consume a lot of that and I normally use two sachets at a time to make a tall glass of hot coffee. Sometimes I drink coffee 3 times a day which meant I am using up to 6 sachets which I think definitely caused my sugar levels to spike up.

So first thing first, I got rid of my 3-in-1 coffee and started using the Nespresso Machine that I have at home.

I got this machine in Sydney when I was there earlier this year in March. There was a promotion going for it at Harvey Norman and managed to snap up one at the price of AUS$159 (if I can recall correctly) at the time. All this while, my wife has been using this machine as I thought that the process of ordering capsules and waiting for them to arrive a bit tedious.

Thanks to my recent medical test results, I have decided to jump on the bandwagon and started making coffee and using as little sugar as I can. Normally, I would use up to 3 teaspoons of sugar with my coffee for a standard cup. Now I am sticking to just one teaspoon of brown sugar.

I had to learn first of all how to operate the machine from my wife as well as what sort of mixture. She tried making a couple of cups for me at first but I felt that it was rather weak. So now my combination involves two capsules of Dharkan, make two shots of espresso with it and mix it with frothed milk and a teaspoon of brown sugar. I also have gotten quite a number of tips on Facebook so now I just ordered 150 capsules from the website (free shipping, yay!) and ordered a capsule stand on eBay, I hope to slowly wean off sugar completely in my coffee.
