Engagement Shoot – Elliot & Charlotte

In keeping with my New Year’s resolution, here is another blog post on Elliot and Charlotte’s engagement shoot.

I knew both of them through church and Elliot is a fantastic drummer and Charlotte’s a fantastic dancer. The two of them looked so sweet and they got married recently! Congratulations to both Elliot and Charlotte. I have a lot to thank Elliot by especially since he was one of the emcees for my own personal wedding, I knew I had to photograph the two of them.

Here are some of my favourite shots below icon smile Engagement Shoot Elliot & Charlotte

Nicholas and Sharon’s Pre-Wedding

I have known Nick for quite some time now ever since the Lowyat photography days and when he asked me to shoot his pre-wedding, I couldn’t say “no” to him. Here are some of the photos from the session. Boy, did I really have so much fun shooting the couple. Both Nick and Sharon were very sporting and they were a really funny couple to photograph. A huge thanks to Mun Tzin as well for helping me out.

Behind the scenes at Heritage Hotel

Here are some of the behind the scenes shots which Mun Tzin took when I photographed Poh Seong and Chiu Yen’s portraiture session at Heritage hotel last year. Last year sounds like a long time but then again, its only January icon smile Behind the scenes at Heritage Hotel

She was playing with my other camera whilst I was shooting the couple. She was also quite intrigued with the bath tubs that were located on the roof of Heritage hotel that she was bugging me to take a picture of her in the tub. Of course I obliged but I took a very quick shot of her.

Poh Seong & Chiu Yen’s Portrait Session

When Chiu Yen contacted me via email about a portrait shoot, I’ve always been communication with her. The moment when I arrived at the shoot location, I was so surprised that Poh Seong was there as well. What a small world! Poh Seong is my neighbour and I used to go to the same high school as his younger brother.

After a couple of weeks of planning the shoot and finally the location, we met in KL at the Heritage Hotel for our portrait session.

I was really looking forward to this shoot and here are some of the images that I took during the shoot.

It was one of the fun shoots that I had and it was great to have been able to shoot both Chiu Yen and Poh Seong. I also have to thank @munz for helping me out throughout the day. She took some behind the scenes shots as well but I haven’t gotten around to posting them up yet.

Weng Jou & Yvonne’s Portrait Session

Sometimes the weather in Malaysia has always been rather predictable especially now during the monsoon season but there are times where I would be praying very hard for nice weather and bright sunlight. Unfortunately, the sun wasn’t up that day but although the sky was rather gloomy in some ways, we still managed to have some fun and enjoy ourselves in the park.

Yvonne contacted me via email after hearing about my promotion which I posted on my blog and after a couple of email exchanges, we agreed on the date and time where we will meet for me to photograph both her and Weng Jou.

Here are some of the photos I liked from Yvonne & Weng Jou’s portraiture shoot.

Wai Seng & Mavis’s Portraiture Shoot

I had the privilege to shoot both Wai Seng & Mavis a while back. They were a fun couple and definitely have a little pizazz in them. One thing I appreciated them about was that they were willing to wake up in the early morning of a weekend and still be energetic even though the weather looked threatening. I didn’t manage to get the light I wanted as the clouds were overcast but I believe we all had a great time on that Saturday morning.

Here are some of the shots I took.

One thing I got to love about our administrative capital on a weekend is that the roads are always so clear! Then again, even during the weekdays, the roads are still clear (subtly hinting and poking fun).

Joshua & Adeline’s Portrait Shots

With a new blog design, I guess its time to post up some photos. Digging through some of my photo archive, I found some photos which I shot a couple months back. Joshua has been one of my best friends and we go a long way back. Having also both studied in the UK, he was always a great host whenever I visited him in Coventry. This time, he came back to Malaysia to propose to Adeline and she said “yes!”.

Although both Joshua and Adeline had a tight schedule here in Malaysia (he’s working in the UK and she’s working in Singapore), I had to make do with the little available time they had. Although the two of them were in Malaysia, it didn’t mean that they were in Selangor. The short time before church started was the only time they could spare. Nevertheless, the 35 minutes we spent together was well worth it!

Here are some of my favourite shots from that day.

I know Joshua quite well and to be very honest, he seems to always like to put his hands like that against the wall. Even when he is thinking to himself. I guess it was meant that Adeline could easily charm him from that angle icon smile Joshua & Adelines Portrait Shots

Random portraits + Reptiles Malaysia

I was trying to free up some space on my hard disk the other day and came across some portraits which I took a while back and it has been sitting in my folder all this while.

A little history about this shot, my friends, the pioneer of the ever popular Reptiles Malaysia, were in the midst of setting up their business and asked me if I could do them a favour and shoot for them. Of course these were the ones that I took for the fun of it. Right now, wished that I had shot more photos at that time and played around with the lighting. Although time was rather tight but at least I managed to pull off a couple of shots within 30-45minutes.

Here are some of those shots.

0801 randomportraits 2 Random portraits + Reptiles Malaysia

I took individual portraits first in my house using a single strobe with a softbox attached.

0801 randomportraits 5 Random portraits + Reptiles Malaysia

From the photos, judging from then and now, I can truly say that I learned a little bit more in regards to lighting as the more I look at them, the more I feel that I could have done a better job. Note that minimal post processing was done on the two shots above.

0801 randomportraits 14 Random portraits + Reptiles Malaysia

Frankly, if I were to shoot the portraits now, I would have added a backlight and side lighting to create a more nicer 3 dimensional feel to the image. Anyway I got to prepare for a shoot this Saturday and I am really gearing up for it. Time to try and improve by another 5% in this shoot from the previous shoots.

The One with all the Photos

Well, not all of the photos are up yet but I did manage to export them out of Lightroom and added the border and watermark on Photoshop before uploading them to my blog. Decided to upload them straight to my blog rather than upload them to Flickr and then copy the codes over here.

Presenter with an Apple?

I am glad that I finally gotten my Macbook Pro after waiting for a month for it to clear SIRIM and arrive at my supplier’s doorstep. A huge thanks to Siva who helped me to order in the Macbook Pro and also bearing with my constant SMSes, asking when is the stock arriving. From the shot above, Louis is explaining about what the slide shown on the wall contained and what it meant. Want to know more? Sign up for his workshops here.

According to Louis, my Macbook Pro wasn’t well “trained” enough and he offered to give me his well “trainedMacbook Pro and swap it with my “untrained” one. Too bad Louis, I am going to train mine in my own special way icon biggrin The One with all the Photos

Here we have Louis explaining to the models on what he intends to do with them. It was good that Louis and Arden hired models who were not experienced in posing. This really made us work hard to get them to pose properly!

Shooting with a D3 and a 70-200mm f/2.8 VR lens

Noticed that the white balance of both the shots above this and the previous ones were different? That is due to the light coming in from the window versus the yellow ambient room lighting. What I learned here is that you don’t need a fantastic location to create wonderful shots. Look at all the equipment everywhere in the room. And yet, I managed to steal a shot with my 85mm lens.

No studio lighting was used to get these shots and we relied heavily on natural lighting. A round of applause to our wonderful models for that session, Samantha and Reynaldo. Appreciate you guys tolerating a newbie like me during the workshop!

Looking at the time now, I am already late for cell group. Hope to get more photos up here soon.

More to come soon…..
