Bukit Tabur

Over the labour day weekend, I went for a climb up Bukit Tabur with some of the guys. I think I shall have an entire post dedicated to that episode but I wanted to share with everyone a shot I took whilst I was still able to breathe during the climb.

I actually do have quite a number of photos to post process but after a gruelling weekend of back-to-back shoots, my feet is really killing me and I definitely need my rest. Contrary to that, it is officially 1am and I have to get up early for work. Will work on my post tomorrow!

Random Thoughts

Once in a while I get some random thoughts that I might blog about it or else this would be more of a post where I just give a little update of whats been happening.

I recently signed up to run 10km at the upcoming KL Marathon 2009 which is happening on the 28th of June. This is line with my company’s competition where the 5 teams will be competing to see how many kilometers in total each team can cover. I shall contribute 10km to my team. Training started on Tuesday with me running my old route here in Cyberjaya to cover 6km. Plan is to run 6km today and two to three times next week. After that I will slowly increase the distance to 9km and finally to 12km.

Another note that I will be giving a workshop/talk on “Photography” at my company on the 6th of June. This talk and workshop will basically cover the basics of photography and I really can’t wait to start working on my slides for them. I plan to use Keynote to present the material so it will be a challenge do me. I guess I can probably work on the slides during my 24 hour flight (+transits) when I head over to Chicago in May. At the same time, I just bought the Keynote Remote application to control my Keynote slides for my iPhone.

Last but not least, I will be attending a talk this Saturday at HELP University College on “How to Become an Orange”. Check this link out for more information.

A quirky Wednesday

I had a very interesting day yesterday, so interesting that I definitely needed to just release it here on my blog. The day started normal, after being away for two days to attend training, I had to attend to a pile of emails as well as follow up on my to-do list which I accidentally dated some actions to be done on Monday.

Gym was planned in the evening but it was also the same night where my colleagues would play badminton. So on an impulse, I went and joined them after work. Didn’t have my proper badminton shoes so I had to wear my running shoes and it was awful. It was so loose that my toes kept hitting the front and it caused me to have swollen toes at the moment. During the game, it got a little heated (boys being boys and our huge egos), until I decided to dive to save a shot only to have to miss the shuttle and slam right into the pole while tangling up in the mess. This ended me with having bruises to my ankle, thigh and my arm. Ouch. Lesson learnt, wear proper badminton shoes!

Anyway, I still needed to keep my gym appointment and off I went to the gym to meet up with the guys. Did some weights and Boon’s version of the ball of doom which is a very ab crunching exercise. Ok, no need to know what I do at the gym, you really don’t want to hear what a fat overweight guy does there icon razz A quirky Wednesday

After a good aching session, we all headed back only for me to find out that I got the locker combination wrong. Seems that if you have those locks with a combination, make sure they are locked when it is kept in your bag, else it might get resetted. So that was what happened to me and I had to get one of the staff to help me cut the lock with a huge ass lock cutter. Believe me, it was that huge!

2nd lessons learnt, never leave a combination lock unlocked in your bag.

It was a real quirky day for me. By the way, I sort of liked Fast & Furious 4.

25 Things About Me

Alright, this started out in Facebook when ShaolinTiger tagged me hence I decided to write 25 things about myself (don’t worry, a Facebook version will also be available) and at the same time, hope to learn about you as well.

Rules: Once you’ve been tagged, you are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you. At the end, choose 25 people to be tagged. You have to tag the person who tagged you. If I tagged you, it’s because I want to know more about you.

  1. I was born in Malacca but lived all of my life in the PJ/KL area. I used to call Malacca my hometown but the real meaning of a home town is starting to make me think twice.
  2. Blue is my favourite colour
  3. I shoot with a Nikon camera all because the Nikon D40 was the camera I saw first and bought on an impulse buy at 1 Utama.
  4. I love using my MacBook Pro especially when I am on the go and I love playing with the iPhone.
  5. I have an iPod classic with 80Gb of memory space but all I do is watch videos on it.
  6. I love eating chicken rice
  7. I tried to carry the Thomas Cup when I was young but it was way too heavy for me. That was when Rashid Sidek won the cup in 1992.
  8. Former first stringer Liverpool goalkeeper, Jerzy Dudek signed my Liverpool cap when I was at Anfield.
  9. Bumped into Thierry Henry at NikeTown in downtown London.
  10. I graduated as an engineer and am no longer working as an engineer.
  11. I used to design video camcorders (mini DVs) at JVC.
  12. I like to play badminton, futsal and slowly picking up golf at the moment. My swing is horrible though.
  13. I love watching TV series such as CSI, Numb3rs, How I Met Your Mother, Two and A Half Men, House, Greys Anatomy, Prison Break, 24, Kitchen Nightmares, Hells Kitchen and many more!
  14. I loved the Kitchen Nightmare series filmed in the UK where Gordon Ramsay transformed a failing restaurant around but the US series is also as great as the restaurant owners are a little more arrogant and not willing to listen to Gordon’s advice.
  15. Whenever I get the chance to sit down in front of a TV with Astro, the first channel I will select would be 411 and then 412 and 413 followed by 703, 701 and 707.
  16. I follow a lot of photography blogs, I just counted 43 of them in my Google Reader.
  17. My favourite holiday was when I went to the Czech Republic, it was totally awesome!
  18. I want to really take good photographs and improve on my skills so I can actually put something into my new photoalbum and have something to show as my portfolio.
  19. I am a total gadget freak except that GPS units don’t really intrigue me enough.
  20. I wish that Malaysia would change for the better in the near future.
  21. I am totally overweight, I need to lose weight fast!
  22. Although I may be lively at times but I always appreciate a nice and quiet day where I can waste my time sipping Starbucks coffee and watching TV series in bed.
  23. I drink a lot of coffee every day.
  24. I love my Taylor guitar although I haven’t played it in a while now.
  25. I am wondering what should I do with the snooker cue which I had gotten all the way from Sheffield.

Alright, these are the 25 things that came straight to my mind when trying to write this down. If you do read this blog and feel compelled to write 25 things about yourself, don’t forget to link back to this site as I would love to know more about you.

No I am not MIA

Contrary to what Nick says, I do not just blog my usual Wednesday Clicks. Unfortunately it is currently the peak season of my life where I am just swamped with work from the office as well as thousands of photos that I need to post process and deliver to the client before the Chinese New Year. So time is of the essence for me and I will be busy post processing photos from thousands of feet above sea level. Well truthfully, I am just post processing them on my flight towards Kota Kinabalu to attend Louis’ workshop tomorrow.

This time I managed to poison munZ to attend the workshop as well with her brand new Nikon D40. I will be loaning her my flashes throughout the workshop as I have two flashes.

Right now as I am sitting here at the LCCT departure lounge, I am a little bit irritated that although they may have provided enough power points throughout the terminal, not all of them are working. Surprisingly the Wifi network here is very good and the internet speed is very fast as compared to the usual slow speeds I got at Starbucks today.

My flight is going to board soon, time to sign-off and conserve that much needed battery energy I need when I am on the plane.

Weekly Wednesday Clicks

This week’s Wednesday clicks would come a little earlier as I think I might be rushing through the day to complete quite a lot in a very short time. Anyway, there have been some very interesting sites that I managed to troll out from the world wide web so brace yourself and enjoy the links.

On a personal note, I got back from Penang on Monday and I was totally exhausted. I guess the 9 hour drive up on Saturday and the 5 hour drive down on Monday took a huge toll on me but the trip was fun and relaxing. I really didn’t know that prices of food in Penang has gone up, I ended up paying RM8 for “char koay teow” and worse of all, “tau sar pneah” was completely sold out. I got loads of photos to sort through, process and deliver so will be very busy over the next couple of weeks.

Some updates here and there

Ok, I gave up trying to figure out how to migrate WordPress Permalinks to a new structure and update all of my old previous posts. I managed to find a plugin by Dean but it doesn’t seem to work with WordPress 2.7. I am really trying to figure out how I can change the permalink structure of all my previous posts. If anyone has any idea, do let me know!

On another hand, I have finally gotten used to Twitter and started updating my statuses on Twitter as well as Facebook. Do add me as a friend on Facebook here as well as check out my Twitter statuses here. Its so fun to be able to see some of my friend’s statuses online as they go through their day.

Had an extremely tiring weekend, the whole of Saturday I was busy with a wedding shoot in church and at Mandarin Oriental with Louis. The shoot lasted from 4.30am (the time I woke up) till late at night and was my feet sore as well. On Sunday, I managed to head to church in the morning and then to Cyberview Lodge to check out the wedding fair there (for reasons kept a secret! hahahaha). After the fair, I headed over to Alamanda in Putrajaya with munZ and realised that the place was packed!

On a fun note, I attended a wedding last night as a guest (see how I would highlight that) and really enjoyed myself chatting with my colleagues and friends over a couple of glasses of wines. It was good to be able to sit down and enjoy the wedding but my voice is becoming rather rasp at the moment after last night’s countless “yam-seng” sessions. Needless to say that my colleagues manage to bring the groom down with their drinks.

Today was an exceptionally funny day for me as I managed to convince myself that I am totally absent minded. I drove all the way to the office today and totally left my work laptop at home. Had to spend some time checking out with the other teams here in the office to see if there are any additional machines I could borrow. Thank God for virtual storage of my work files. Else I wouldn’t have any access to my working documents.

Aching feet

My feet is aching from two days of shooting and yet here I am getting ready to go for brunch with some of my Sheffield pals. Had loads of fun over the two days but raring for more! So many photos to back up and process but I got to find the time to work them out.

The one surprising thing yesterday was that I managed to test out the new Canon 5D Mk2 during a shoot and man, it was an awesome camera. We used the camera to take family portraits and even ring shots at full 21MP resolution! How cool was that. After the shoot, the camera even spent the night with me but since I am such a big Nikon supporter, it stayed in the box throughout the night before heading back to it’s owner this morning.

Another surprise for me was that I came back from a busy weekend only to find that Louis has announced the launch of his newly redesigned blog. Go and check it out here.

Its time for some banana leaf rice!

I ate too much in Malacca

It has been a while since I last came back to my hometown of Malacca. I think I can barely remember the last time but I know that I haven’t been back the whole of 2008  (not counting the times I drove past Malacca on the way down to Singapore and Segamat). Anyway I am back here over the weekend to attend my cousin’s wedding. Will be waking up pretty early tomorrow to help him out by being his photographer.

One of the things I miss the most about Malacca is the food. I managed to get my parents to bring me to a food court so that I could taste different dishes and I wasn’t really in a mood for “sate celup” so they brought me to the Newton food court. The Newton food court originated near the old jailhouse but they have setup a similar looking food court that reminds me of Ming Tien back in PJ.

Here are some of the photos I took of the food we ordered.

My aunts decided to order a very famous “hakka” dish which I really think it is just tortoise food.

My parents went for something more traditional, claypot chicken rice.

My sister stuck with her usual Uncle Bob fried chicken.

I went for an upgraded version of the claypot chicken rice with an additional egg and an extra chinese sausage.

Of course I wouldn’t sit down at a food court without ordering fried oysters.

And to top everything off, Portugese “Ikan bakar” or burnt manta ray (its not really burnt!).

I am still full from dinner and I did wish I had more time to try out my other favourites such as “sate celup”, “cendol”, chicken rice balls and other delicacies. My only dissapointment is that my all-time favourite coffee shop has closed down due to newer development and all of the stalls have split up to other locations in Malacca.

Time to head back to get a good nights rest before tomorrow’s shoot. I am still in awe of the recent development in this area.

Busy weekend and busy week ahead

Update: I finally managed to add Twitter in here, from the looks of it, my last update was a long while ago!

I had an extremely busy weekend with a full day wedding shoot (photos to be posted up soon) on Saturday from morning till night and then scooting off to Tioman Island on Sunday and finally returning on Monday. Although it might seem that being in Tioman would be relaxing, it was nothing short of that as I had many activities, late nights and of course, watching Liverpool win over the weekend.

Lian Hoy & Ivy’s wedding was awesome as it marked the first of my group of high school friends who had gotten married. It was doubly special for me to be able to capture their special day as well as their main photographer and also receive some positive feedback and comments from the express slideshow which was shown during the dinner event.

Now I will be busy at work trying to chase people up to complete their work during this week as well as prepare for this weekend for another shoot. So many things to do with so little time, I need to really balance work and life now!
