Wednesday Clicks

Shootfest came and shootfest finished in a blink of an eye for me but instead of dreaming of the past, I will strive to move forward. Forward with this week’s Wednesday Clicks, that is. I also realised that a post without pictures is definitely boring! So here is a image I took while I was away in NYC.

The park in the image above is the famous Central Park of Manhattan.

Here is a little reason why I chose Wednesday to have the Wednesday clicks, its because in the week, whenever you reach Wednesdays, its all downhill from here. Have a great week ahead!

Wednesday Clicks

Ahoy there, what happened to last week’s posting? It seemed to have dissapeared but to be perfectly honest, I was busy catching the Champions League final match between Man Utd and Barcelona in a local Irish Pub near my hotel on 50th Street in Manhattan. The atmosphere was great, the pub was split with supporters from both sides sitting at different sections and me and Jamie had a huge plate of nachos to split between the two of us.

Look at the size of the nachos! All covered in cheese and sour cream, yumz!

Anyway back to the point, let’s have some interesting links here.

  • First of all, I definitely have to highlight this video made by my friend, theBackpackr, watch it here and you will laugh your head off. I guess some people are willing to go to extreme lengths just to get the Apple 3G iPhone. Otherwise, for the rest of you camera fans out there, the video was shot entirely with the new Canon 5D Mk2.
  • Secondly, as part of the WeddingStory team, I was unfortunate fortunate not to have been to Bangladesh because apparently there was an outbreak over there which some people say is more serious than the H1N1 virus. As you can see from this video here, Malaysians who are there tend to end up going crazy, I really mean going crazy. Don’t believe me? You definitely have to watch the video then to understand my point.
  • Only in Malaysia can you confiscate someone’s shirt because of some of the “controversial” designs on it and when the designer asks what are the guidelines for designs, there are no guidelines at all!
  • There is an upcoming Blogger’s Karnival which is going to be held on the 20th June at Jaya 33. For more information about the event, click on this link.

That’s all for this week. I would definitely recommend watching those videos, don’t forget to click “play” first and then “pause” and wait for the entire video to load first before watching it. Malaysia isn’t blessed with fast internet speed so this is just one of the workarounds.

Wednesday Clicks

Since I am on a totally different time zone (its supposed to be 1.20pm in KL now but its only 12.20am here in Chicago) so I decided to post pone the post a little bit to suit my time here. Frankly, between 8am-7pm classes all day, I am thankful that the sun does appear about later than usual so that it doesn’t feel that late. But nevertheless, I haven’t gotten used to waking up at 6am everyday so that I can head over for breakfast before class. Food here is absolutely fantastic and fresh strawberries every morning! Ok, I have to be honest, my breakfast is usually made up of pork cumberland sausages, with pork bacon and scrambled eggs and of course, the creme de la creme, free Starbucks coffee. Yeah, that is the life I can get used to.

Anyway, back to this week’s click.

  • Head over here to download Coldplay’s live album, absolutely free!
  • Check out this new blog released by the New York Times called Lens. I guess the name explains it all about what the content of the blog would be.
  • This week’s guest speaker at Scott Kelby’s blog is none other than Vincent Versace. I was introduced to Vincent Versace by Kee Sitt. This led me to purchase his book last year and to be perfectly honest, I have had just a glance through it but never really study it yet.
  • New leaked specs about the upcoming iPhone which is predicted or assumed to be launched on the 17th of July. Can anyone say, Organice Liquid Emitting Display ten times?

That’s all for this week. Its late over here and its time to sleep. I guess it would be easy to get over the jet lag now since I have had a couple of drinks at the local bar earlier.

Wednesday Clicks

Its Wednesday’s again and time for the this week’s Wednesday Clicks. With all that has been going on politcally here in Malaysia, especially that state up north of Selangor, there have been loads of interesting news flying about.

  • Chase Jarvis has posted on his blog a post entitled, “Shake Your Tree“, which is an interesting read especially for you photographers out there. He talks about how to start shaking our own tree and start doing something instead of laying about idle. Personally, my plan is to start taking more photos with my iPhone and look out for interesting subjects and frames about.
  • Apparently news are going about that Rocky will be the CEO of Malay Mail. According to Rocky himself, it is completely wrong.
  • This link is dedicated to the Pulau Ketam Save the Dog’s Campaign. For more information check out the link, here are some thoughts from some bloggers about, here and here.
  • ShootFest 001 has reached 65 registrants so far and the max number of registrants who can attend is only 80. That means there is only 15 more spots available. I do encourage everyone to participate and find a session to present, it can be either 15mins or 30mins and the rest could be time for networking. Let’s all get out of our own comfort zone and share with one another ok?
  • Apparently some dude in China is saying that he knows of what are the new specs for the upcoming iPhone. He claims that it will have a capacity of 32Gb, a 3.2MP cam with autofocus ability and a 600MHz processor. I do think that the additional capacity and memory bump speed and the autofocus ability of the cam is a nice welcome.

That’s all for this week folks.

Wednesday Clicks

Okay, so I missed out my weekly Wednesday clicks and this time, I am back with more interesting links. I have been sort of isolated from most of the social media networks at work because Facebook has been banned and I only can check Twitter via the web which is quite hard at times. Anyway, enough about my troubles, here you go.

  • If you can view YouTube whereever you are (I can’t view YouTube at work), check out this video. Totally awesome especially if you love Taylor Swift’s Love Story as well as Cold Play’s La Vida Loca. I love the dynamics of the song, just beautiful.
  • ShootFest 001: The Wedding is coming (6th and 7th June) and I will save a post just to explain a little more about what it is.
  • Something I may have written before but I am writing it here again, if you don’t know what Nikon DTown is about, check it out here. It is a website which shows episodes of Scott Kelby and others giving tips on how to use your Nikon DSLR and even with guest appearances from Joe McNally teaching about using flashes.
  • There is a new NikonSchool.com website out now. Check it out if you are free.
  • A little bit of political news on what is happening now as I am typing out this post. A political activist has been arrested under the Sedition Act.

To be honest, this post has loads of Nikon stuff and I will definitely try to limit these single-brand focused type of posts. Heck, i love Canon’s 5D Mk2 for its amazing 21MP of pure joy as well as Canon’s 50mm and 85mm f/1.2 L lenses. Although there are rumours that Nikon will be releasing their latest AF-S 85mm f/1.4 as well as the 28mm f/1.4. Definitely going to be some sweet lenses but after my recent purchases, I am flat out broke.

Wednesday Clicks

Oh my gosh, its Wednesday and I totally forgot about this post. Nevertheless, it is always better late than never right?

Have a great week ahead, remember, its all the way downhill from here.

Wednesday Clicks

I can’t believe it that I actually went a whole week without any updates and I really dread to see two Wednesday Clicks post back to back in my blog. Nevertheless, I will try updating my blog a little bit more but of course I have been completely busy over the entire weekend.

The Pikom PC Fair was a dissapointment for me, mainly because I expected too much for it and of course the extremely packed exhibition halls as well as countless sales people trying to push flyers in my face to sign up for their broadband/mobile/laptop promotions and coupled with the huge amount of stalls selling printer inks, I guess it was just too much for me. Still, I managed to walk away with a wireless keyboard+mouse set from Microsoft.

Anyway, here are this week’s clicks.

A short post this week but I am totally up to my neck with work to complete and goals to accomplish.

Wednesday Clicks

I am back again with this week’s Wednesday Clicks, last week I decided to actually not post up due to the fact that it was April Fool’s day. Nevertheless, its back up again with loads of interesting links.

Have a great week ahead everyone, as they always say, Wednesday, its all downhill from here!

Wednesday Clicks

I really think that time is really an essence that we cannot waste. Then again there are a lot of things that we do waste that might affect us in a subtle but yet realistic way.

  • This is what you should do if you have about 22-25 million pound sterling sitting in your bank account, buy a village!
  • If you are a new iPhone user or you are considering getting an iPhone sometime in the near future, do note that iPhone’s can’t be tethered at the moment, but this may be of some good news. What is tethering? Well tethering is basically hooking up your phone with your laptop/PC and using the phone’s 3G connection, surf the web.
  • Another bit of Apple related news, as crazy as it seems, I thought stupid things like this only happen in Malaysia.
  • Ok, your friend in the US gives you a DVD for your birthday and you realised you can’t play it on your DVD player because of the DVD region. I bet you must be cursing your lucky stars. Well apparently Gordon Brown must have done something similar when Obama gave him a set of DVDs as a gift.
  • Here is a great post on 20 tips for better conference speaking.
  • Check out this site about 5 minutes before lunch, it will definitely help you build an appetite!

Last but not least, there has been so much hype about Earth Hour and all the Earth Hour parties this coming Saturday. Yes I do support the notion of everyone turning off the lights for an hour but I feel that the only way this will make an impact is that if people could take one thing away from this event is that they learn to conserve energy. A simple gesture like turning off lights when there is no one in the room or talking a short walk to your grocery store instead of driving 2 minutes down the road, every little small thing adds up.

Now the funny part about Earth Hour is a question I would definitely like to post up, how much extra energy has already been consumed/used to promote Earth Hour? I see a huge ass billboard with LIGHTS on it running along the highways. So you turn off your lights for an hour, versus the 1 month of electricity usage to power those billboards? The irony of it all right?

My take is, yes, celebrate Earth Hour and turn off your lights. Then go to what ever party that you may be attending consuming your normal amount of electricity powering those huge ass amplifiers and disco lights. But take home a small fact about energy consumption. Remember, turning off the lights for a room overnight is also equivalent to heating up 10,000 cups of tea.

Wednesday Clicks

This week has been a miserable week for me as I am down with a flu and thanks to the flu, a fever as well. And to make things even worse, because I am sick, my immune system is low hence germs decided to attack my gums and here I am with swollen infected gums, barely being able to eat anything without feeling any pain.

Anyway it is a good thing I decided to slowly collect links over the past week in order that I don’t miss out this week’s Wednesday clicks.

  • Ever wondered how Air Force One looks like? Well, look no further.
  • This blog post shows Air Force One and it’s rich history as a usual transport for the president of the United States.
  • An interesting video which depicts Sex, Lies and Photoshop, tag line for the day, why editors should reveal which photos are photoshopped!
  • 25 of the best photography websites, link courtesy of Anna!
  • An interesting blog about life.
  • I have been hooked on Zack Arias’ critique episodes and they are just totally mind blowing. Critique is very important for a photographer and it sometimes take other people to help us look at things we may tend to overlook. Check them out here. There are already 6 episodes on his blog already but there are only 4 episodes on YouTube. I wrote on his blog (comment section) to request that he could also upload his episodes on YouTube because our crappy Malaysian lines had trouble streaming from Blip.Tv. I am just so glad that he obliged, thanks Zack!
  • Here is a cool site for you to just insert your name and get a list of cool facts about your name.
  • The latest Nikon rumour is that a new 35mm f/1.4 AF-S lens (FX) is about to appear sometime mid year?
  • Here is a very good example of how reporters can take your words and twist it around. Check out this which was published and the article rebuttal over here.
  • Ever since Maxis has launched the Apple iPhone 3G here in Malaysia, here is something for all of us iPhone owners to look forward to, namely the new copy and paste function! Only thing I am sad that was missed out was Flash support as well as tethering.

Until next week, see you all soon. Hope to get better!
