Weng Jou & Yvonne’s Portrait Session

Sometimes the weather in Malaysia has always been rather predictable especially now during the monsoon season but there are times where I would be praying very hard for nice weather and bright sunlight. Unfortunately, the sun wasn’t up that day but although the sky was rather gloomy in some ways, we still managed to have some fun and enjoy ourselves in the park.

Yvonne contacted me via email after hearing about my promotion which I posted on my blog and after a couple of email exchanges, we agreed on the date and time where we will meet for me to photograph both her and Weng Jou.

Here are some of the photos I liked from Yvonne & Weng Jou’s portraiture shoot.

Thanks a lot to Yvonne and Weng Jou for being such a wonderful couple and being such great models during the shoot.

By the way, there is going to be a big announcement on the 1st of January. Stay tuned for it.

Aaron & Susan’s Portraiture Session

Aaron works in the same company as I do and he previously helped me organize the photography workshop I thought at my firm a couple of months back. This time when he emailed me again, it was for something totally different. He was going to be in front of the camera together with Susan instead of behind it.

Frankly, I believe that Cyberjaya is a little hidden gem when it comes to photo taking. I believe there is plenty of potential here in terms of the photos you can get. I just need to experiment more and recce the place out a little bit more and I am sure I can find more unique locations.

So when Aaron asked me to shoot his portraiture session, I jumped at the chance to suggest Cyberjaya.

Here are some of my favourite shots from that day.

The weather wasn’t really what I had hoped for, instead of the sunny and dramatic skies I know Cyberjaya has, it turned out to be dark and gloomy. To make it worse, it started to drizzle as well during the shoot.

Despite the weather, we powered through with more shots!

The sun did eventually set earlier than expected or it probably hid behind some clouds, so we headed towards Putrajaya for a couple of shots there as well.

As a confession, we took these photos right after work so I had all of my lighting equipment and no one to help me hold them. Hence I had to employ the street lamp to assist me with my lighting.

I can’t wait for my next assignment to be in Cyberjaya or Putrajaya, I definitely want to try other locations other than just using the usual bridge shots there.

Maye & Friends Portrait Shoot

When I first advertised on my blog here about my portrait promotion, the first thing I had in mind were couples who might be signing up for the promotion. But to my surprise, when Maye contacted me, it wasn’t just a couple but instead, she asked if I could do a session for her and her two best friends.

Not long after the first email was sent, we finally decided on a location and here are some of the photos of the day.

Although the weather wasn’t as perfect as I hoped it would be but I managed together with the help of munZ to chase down the sun before it completely sets.

The funny thing about the shot was that the moment I shared it with them, the first thing that came to their mind was they wanted me to photoshop in some shopping bags into the shot. Makes it a little more realistic especially with KLCC in the background.

Definitely a fun shoot and I can’t wait to share more photos with them.

Peter & May’s Portrait Session

Oh my goodness, I really can’t remember the last time I actually posted something up here really means either I have been busy with work, busy with shoots, busy with hanging out or maybe perhaps, trying to get all the details in for my own wedding. But I will leave that bit for another post.

I received May’s email one fine day in regards to my portrait promotion which I gave out for this year and after a couple of email exchanges, we were up early in the morning for our shoot in KL. I had my wonderful assistant, munZ, who assisted me throughout the shoot.

Here are some of my favourite shots from that session.

We started off with just some fun, hoping to catch the sun and the smiles icon smile Peter & Mays Portrait Session

And finally, in the end, we had a little bit of fun at the playground. Man, did the kids look at us funny. They must be probably thinking, “Uncle, can you move away, I want to play with the stuff there la!”.

Was definitely a fun session, I think I got a little sunburned then. Ah the joy of taking photos icon smile Peter & Mays Portrait Session

Colin & Lucille’s Portraiture Shoot

Both Colin and Lucille hailed from Klang and I thought that since they were already there, why not take a drive down to Klang and shoot their portraiture session over there. I had to thank munZ a lot for this shoot because she totally helped me by showing me the way around (she had a recent job at Pulau Ketam) and of course, helping me lug my equipment about (its not that bad, my camera bag now has wheels!)

We started the day taking a couple of shots about the jetty area with plenty of sun light from what I thought would be a torrential downpour.

And after lots and lots of praying that it wouldn’t rain, the clouds came in fast and the raindrops started to pour down. Of course that didn’t really stop me from continuing on with the shoot and using what ever we had available.

I even managed to sneak in a couple of individual shots of the each of them.

I had a lot of fun that day shooting the two of them as well as experiencing that part of Klang. I even saw some interesting location to shoot in the future as well but it is a very long drive there.

By the way, Lucille is also an event manager and a freelance designer. Do check out her blog here at http://www.lucillejoyce.blogspot.com/.

Wai Seng & Mavis’s Portraiture Shoot

I had the privilege to shoot both Wai Seng & Mavis a while back. They were a fun couple and definitely have a little pizazz in them. One thing I appreciated them about was that they were willing to wake up in the early morning of a weekend and still be energetic even though the weather looked threatening. I didn’t manage to get the light I wanted as the clouds were overcast but I believe we all had a great time on that Saturday morning.

Here are some of the shots I took.

Langkawi – Day 2

To be honest, after being to islands like Phuket, Bali and even Singapore (no, I am not talking about people with an island mentality), I have come to realise the vast difference between Langkawi and these other tourist destinations. Seriously, the place could definitely use something to spruce it up but then, what does Langkawi really have to offer?

 Langkawi Day 2

No, I don’t think the escaped Ian is always there in Langkawi as captured above!

 Langkawi Day 2

No, there aren’t that many escaped jumping humans about. Perhaps you might catch a glimpse of some other interesting life forms there.

 Langkawi Day 2

No, there aren’t that many beggars sitting by the sidewalk waiting for their other halves while they shop for 4 hours. (ok I was just kidding about the 4 hours).

 Langkawi Day 2

I don’t think people usually come to visit the water bottle carrying man from Penang who hides in the deepest of alleys in the streets of Langkawi as well.

 Langkawi Day 2

Like every other island, the relaxing sound of waves hitting the shores whilst the cool breeze skims through your hair is enough to melt away all of our tensions. Perhaps that is what people might head to Langkawi, to catch a little rest and relaxation. As I mentioned in my previous post, I was in Langkawi for a shoot and then for a little bit of R&R with the WeddingStory team. After a very very tiring first day, I totally overslept and skipped breakfast. That aside, I woke up definitely in time for lunch icon smile Langkawi Day 2

After lunch, we all decided to walk along the beach and after several sessions of banana boat rides and watching Nigel and Lai Yeen defy gravity and got dragged across the ocean on a para-sail. It just took me 15 minutes standing under the bright sun to note that I was being cooked alive! Yes it was that hot so our time on the beach was cut short because we were heading out for our own photo shoot!

Yes, Grace and Alex planned that we needed to all dress up for a private shoot and did I really come unprepared. Whilst Munz brought a nice dress, I wore a polo shirt and shorts which she definitely made me change into something a little more formal. Oh well, I guess I had to suffer in the hot sun with slacks and a long sleeved shirt. After the whole fiasco with my clothes, we arrived at our destination.

 Langkawi Day 2

We started off shooting and shooting and trying out various types of shots with various techniques. Personally, I was trying to utilize the natural lighting as much as I can and to use it to my advantage as well. Here are some of my shots from the session.

 Langkawi Day 2

 Langkawi Day 2

Took a couple of photos with Munz for a while whilst trying to figure out how to pose her for a couple of those shots. Not easy trying to pose your girlfriend especially when I am sweating like mad and my sweat was stinging my eyes! I must bring a towel on my next portrait shoots.

 Langkawi Day 2

I liked this photo of both Alex and Grace because of Grace’s expression.

 Langkawi Day 2

Now who says you can’t do some serious shots in padi fields?

After taking even more photos of the rest there, the sun was setting and we quickly headed back to our hotel (which was conveniently next to the beach). Since we were on the west coast of the island, we wanted to capture some sunset shots by the beach. This was when I could change back to my shirt and shorts which was much cooler!

 Langkawi Day 2

 Langkawi Day 2

Ok, we arrived there a little too early and it was still extremely bright. Good time to shoot a couple more portraits on the beach while waiting for light to diminish.

 Langkawi Day 2

The sunset was totally awesome. One of the nicest I have seen around Malaysia. The other occasion was when I was in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, atending Louis Pang’s workshop.

 Langkawi Day 2

I even managed to get the sunset as well as the crescent moon as well. Was a tough shot to take because I had my 50mm attached with me at the moment.

After spending two days in Langkawi and eating overpriced food which was still good, I guess the main attraction over here was the statues on the beach. Some say that orcs erected them up to celebrate the crescent moon, or maybe elves wanted to erect landmarks to guide their ships correctly.

 Langkawi Day 2

All I know is that, these statues have a story to tell.

Now try and guess what they are saying,

Joshua & Adeline’s Portrait Shots

With a new blog design, I guess its time to post up some photos. Digging through some of my photo archive, I found some photos which I shot a couple months back. Joshua has been one of my best friends and we go a long way back. Having also both studied in the UK, he was always a great host whenever I visited him in Coventry. This time, he came back to Malaysia to propose to Adeline and she said “yes!”.

Although both Joshua and Adeline had a tight schedule here in Malaysia (he’s working in the UK and she’s working in Singapore), I had to make do with the little available time they had. Although the two of them were in Malaysia, it didn’t mean that they were in Selangor. The short time before church started was the only time they could spare. Nevertheless, the 35 minutes we spent together was well worth it!

Here are some of my favourite shots from that day.
